Tops fall 8-2 to drop road series against Owls

Western Kentucky dropped the baseball series finale to Kennesaw State 8-2 on Sunday afternoon at S. Walter Kelly Sr. Memorial Field in Marietta, Georgia.
WKU dropped to 21-3 overall and 1-2 in Conference USA play. The Hilltoppers are now 1-2 all-time against Kennesaw State.
Kennesaw State got on the scoreboard with an RBI double in the first inning.
WKU junior second baseman Drew Barragan’s second solo homer of the weekend tied the game at 1-1 in the second.
The Owls took a two-run lead with back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the frame.
Kyle Hvidsten tacked on another run for WKU with a sacrifice fly in the third.
A two-RBI double and an RBI single pushed the KSU lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the inning. The Owls added a solo home run in the fourth inning.
A Hilltopper throwing error brought in another run in the eighth to extend the lead to 8-2.

Gavin Perry made his fourth start on the mound for WKU. The Oceanside, California, native claimed one strikeout in two innings of work while allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits.
Lucas Litteral, Zach Lyles, Dawson Hall and Evan Jones made appearances out of the bullpen for WKU. Litteral struck out two in an inning of action and gave up two runs on two hits and two walks. Lyles tossed a career-high 3 1/3 innings and conceded just one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Hall allowed one run (zero earned) with two walks and one strikeout, while Jones saw one batter and claimed one strikeout.
The WKU offense totaled six hits and four walks with two RBIs.
Barragan was 1-for-3 with a home run, an RBI, a run and a walk. Reid Howard went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Ethan Lizama was 1-for-2 with a double and two sacrifice bunts. Hvidsten had the other RBI with a sacrifice fly.
WKU will conclude its five-game road stretch with a midweek contest at Evansville on Tuesday. First pitch from Braun Stadium is set for 6 p.m. CT.
