Lady Dragons’ Updegraff tallies seven hits in twinbill split

Warren Central senior Emma Updegraff tallied seven hits in a softball doubleheader split against host Heritage Christian on Saturday.

Updegraff was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and stole two bases in the Lady Dragons’ 21-16 loss. Then in the rematch, Updegraff went 4-for-5 with four doubles and three RBIs as Central won 11-8.

In the nightcap, Haylie Baxter was 2-for-4 with an RBI and stole two bases, Parker Hawks tallied a triple and an RBI, Shyanne Pasley stole four bases and drove in a run, DaYana Cofer tallied three stolen bases and scored three times, Matie Dietre tallied two stolen bases and two runs scored, and Caidence Stuart also drove in a run for the Lady Dragons. Mackenzie Rose pitched all seven innings to earn the complete-game win, tallying eight strikeouts.

Cofer was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs in the opener. Baxter was 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs. Pasley went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI, Rose was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, Hawks tallied a double and two RBIs, and Sophie Wheatley also notched two RBIs.

Warren Central (1-4) is back in action Monday at Todd County Central.

South Warren 8, Daviess County 4

South Warren claimed a pair of home softball wins Saturday, beating Daviess County 8-4 and topping Liberty Creek (Tennessee) 5-0.

Against Daviess, South’s McLaine Hudson went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple and three RBIs. Layla Ogden was 2-for-3 with a solo home run, Hadley Borders went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Hayden Holloway tallied a double and an RBI, and Kinleigh Russell and Madison Stuart notched one RBI each.

Ogden pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three earned runs while striking out three.

Russell was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the win against Liberty Creek. Hudson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Jenna Lindsey and Borders each added an RBI.

Courtney Norwood pitched a complete-game shutout for the win, allowing just two hits and no walks while fanning 11.

South Warren (4-0) hosts Owensboro Catholic on Tuesday.

Edmonson County 8, Hart County 0

Julie Norris tossed a complete-game shutout to lead visiting Edmonson County to an 8-0 win against Hart County on Saturday.

Norris allowed no runs off just two hits and no walks while striking out 10. At the plate, Norris was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs.

Abigal Hogg added a 2-for-3 day with two RBIs, Emma Price was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Jolee Vincent was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Emma Davis was 2-for-5 for the Lady Cats.

Edmonson County (3-1) hosts Franklin-Simpson on Monday.

Franklin-Simpson 10, Muhlenberg County 9

Franklin-Simpson picked up a pair of home wins Saturday, beating Muhlenberg County 10-9 in eight innings and topping Cumberland County 13-6.

Against Muhlenberg, Lilly Ferguson was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, Kloie Smith went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Jasmine Grover was 2-for-4, Allie Utley went 2-for-5 and scored three runs, Ava Holland tallied three RBIs and Jayden Kough also drove in a run. Rebecca Luttrell earned the win in relief, striking out two in a scoreless eighth.

Smith was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI against Cumberland. Utley was 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored, Addison Shelton tallied a double and three RBIs, Holland drove in two runs and stole two bases, Kough notched a double and two RBIs, Kaitlyn Woodall added two RBIs, Ferguson stole two bases and drove in a run, and Luttrell also picked up an RBI.

Luttrell started and pitched six innings to earn the win, allowing two runs while fanning 11.

Franklin-Simpson (4-1) visits Edmonson County on Monday.

Baseball

Bowling Green 9, Highlands 8

Bowling Green earned a pair of wins in the Greenwood High School Hot Rods Classic, outlasting Highlands 9-8 in 11 innings before downing Apollo 1-0 on Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Against Highlands, BG’s Markell Yates was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Drew Isenberg went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Hudson Nottmeier was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Grayson Newman and Evan Schallert collected two hits each and Harrison Yates tallied an RBI. Nottmeier pitched three innings of relief to warn the win.

Andru Jones and Isenberg combined on a four-hit shutout against Apollo. Jones started and pitched five innings to earn the win, striking out two. Isenberg fanned four in his two innings of relief.

Nottmeier led the Purples at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing. Jones drove in the lone run and Logan Johnson had a double.

Bowling Green (2-1) hosts Logan County on Monday.

Owensboro 5, Barren County 3

Barren County dropped a pair of games Saturday, losing 5-3 to host Owensboro and falling 6-2 to Christian County.

Jordan Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to pace the Trojans against Owensboro. Axel Dysholm and Aiden Keeney each added and RBI.

Jackson Reece was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in the loss to Christian County. Skylar Potter tallied an RBI and Jaxon Vincent had a double.

Barren County (2-3) hosts South Warren on Tuesday.
