Hosparus Health will host a Senior Resource Summit from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Medical Center-WKU Health Sciences Complex
“This is a free community service event that is created for those who are seeking to age as optimally as possible or for their caregivers who are seeking services and agencies that can help support aging well,” said Kristen Roderick, community outreach manager at Hosparus Health.
Hosparus Health and Pallitus Health Partners will sponsor a discussion of specialized programs that support patients and families navigating serious illness, including symptom management and holistic care, and John Dotson, a Kentucky elder law attorney, will offer guidance on senior asset protection, longterm care planning, Medicaid, probate and VA benefits.
“These are breakout sessions where people can learn about what hospice care and palliative care is,” Roderick said. “And John Dotson’s talk is a great, informative talk about how to not make financial mistakes with assets as you age.”
Attendees can also browse exhibitor booths and local vendors, enter to win door prizes and learn about resources for healthcare, legal and financial planning, senior living and more.
Roderick said this is the third year for the summit, which was born out of the experience of the COVID world, where so many people were experiencing decline and having a hard time connecting with health care providers and other resources.
“It was created so that people would have an annual one-stop place to connect with every type of resource available in the Barren River area district,” she said. “We have health fairs for a variety of reasons, and this one is all about connecting people at the right time.”
She said that in the hosparus and palliative care model, by the time families reach out to them, they say they wish they had reached out sooner for these services.
“That’s the spirt of this event,” she said. “It’s all about getting people to us sooner to increase quality of life. It’s a good way to get out and connect and have a fun time doing it.”
