Greenwood’s Abigail Byrd is back.

The senior pitcher made her presence felt immediately in Greenwood’s 3-0 season-opening win over Warren East on Tuesday, tossing a shutout to help lead the Lady Gators to an opening-night win.

She allowed five hits and struck out five, returning to the lineup after being limited to 16 games last year due to injury.

“I’ve been missing it out there with that team,” Byrd said. “I feel like there is a whole different energy when I am in the circle than being in the dugout, so I was really excited to get back out there.”

Greenwood will host Daviess County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
