Coradini, Lobb pitch Spartans to season-opening win

South Warren pitchers Mikey Coradini and Jacob Lobb combined on a two-hit shutout as the Spartans beat visiting Glasgow to win their baseball season opener Tuesday.

Coradini got the start and earned the win after pitching five shutout innings, allowing two hits while striking out 10 batters. Lobb finished up with two scoreless innings of relief, tallying one strikeout.

Camden Page homered and drove in three runs to lead the Spartans’ offense. Joseph Fentress added a double and an RBI, and Griffin Rardin also tallied an RBI in the win.

South Warren (1-0) visits White House (Tennessee) on Thursday.

Glasgow (0-2) is at Franklin-Simpson on Friday.

Greenwood 7, Logan County 3

Zachary Davis drove in a pair of runs to boost host Greenwood to a 7-3 win against Logan County on Tuesday.

Jake Flickinger added a double and an RBI, Andrew Jolly notched a triple and scored a run, John Kincaid tallied a double and scored a run, and Rylan Graves and Jackson Lee had one RBI apiece.

Ryan Loiars earned the win after pitching two scoreless innings of relief. He struck out two.

Greenwood (2-0) hosts Apollo in the Greenwood High School Hot Rods Classic on Friday at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Drew McLellan was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Logan County (1-1), which hosts Hopkinsville on Thursday.

Owensboro 4, Warren East 1

Host Warren East dropped a 4-1 decision to Owensboro in the Raiders’ season opener on Tuesday.

Briggs Young drove in the lone run for East, which tallied just three hits. Brooks Vincent took the loss despite pitching six strong innings, allowing two runs off four hits while striking out two.

Warren East (0-1) hosts Muhlenberg County on Thursday.

Butler County 14, Russellville 2

Visiting Butler County took down Russellville 14-2 in six innings on Tuesday.

Brycen Mode led the Bears at the plate with a 3-for-3 day with a double, two stolen bases and three runs scored in the win. Will Amos was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Duncan Tyree went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Brock Henderson drove in two runs, Justin Castlen tallied a triple, and Brayden Clark, Eli Oaks and Garrett Phelps each drove in a run.

Phelps started and pitched five innings for the win, allowing two runs while striking out six. Clark finished up with a scoreless inning of relief. He struck out two.

Butler County (1-1) visits Franklin-Simpson on Thursday.

Russellville (0-1) is at Hopkins County Central on Thursday.

Franklin-Simpson 20, Portland 5

Franklin-Simpson rolled to a 20-5 road win in four innings against Portland (Tennessee) on Tuesday.

Brady Delk went 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and three RBIs. Delk also pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out three.

Jaxon Gass added a 2-for-2 day with a home run and three RBIs for the Wildcats. Kolton Turner notched three RBIs, Liam Heinze added two RBIs, Braylon Turner had a double and an RBI, and Carson Kelley and Boy Blanckenberg each drove in a run.

Turner earned the win after starting and pitching the first two innings.

Franklin-Simpson (1-1) hosts Butler County on Thursday.

Taylor County 8, Barren County 2

Homestanding Barren County fell 8-2 to Taylor County in the Trojans’ season opener Tuesday.

Sutton Hyde went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Jaxon Vincent tallied a hit and was 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts for Barren County (0-1).

The Trojans visit Bowling Green on Thursday.

Softball

ACS 8, Logan County 2

Kensley Byrn went 3-for-3 and scored a pair of runs to spark visiting Allen County-Scottsville to an 8-2 win against Logan County on Tuesday.

Jacie Rice added a double and three RBIs, Payton Hopkins was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, Maddie Gray was 2-for-4 with a solo home run, Brooklyn Oliver was 2-for-4, and Ally Anderson drove in a run for Lady Patriots.

Oliver went 6 1/3 innings to earn the win, allowing two runs while fanning eight.

ACS (2-0) hosts Butler County on Saturday.

Brenley Adler, Addison Holloway and Kallie Taylor tallied two hits each for the Lady Cougars in the loss. Haley Henson and Addison Cartas each notched an RBI for Logan County (1-1), which visits Warren East on Friday.
