Gators blank Scotties 2-0 to win season opener

Greenwood’s baseball team opened the season with a one-hit shutout to beat visiting Glasgow 2-0 on Monday.
Gators starting pitcher Nathan Howard earned the win after firing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out six batters. Henry Justice followed with two scoreless innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts before Zachary Davis pitched the final inning to earn the save. Davis didn’t allow a base runner and struck out two.
Rylan Graves led Greenwood (1-0) at the plate with a 1-for-3 day and tallied the team’s lone RBI.
The Gators were slated to host Logan County on Tuesday.
Steven Garrett notched the lone hit for Glasgow (0-1), which was set to visit South Warren on Tuesday.
Logan County 6, Butler County 3
Drew McLellan homered and drove in a pair of runs to pace homestanding Logan County to a 6-3 win against Butler County on Monday.
Brady Hinton added two RBIs and Noah Mosley drove in a run for the host Cougars.
Tate McLellan started on the mound and earned the win after pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing three runs. He struck out seven. Drew McLellan pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to earn the save, allowing no runs off three hits while striking out five.
Logan County (1-0) was set to visit Greenwood on Tuesday.
Justin Castlen went 3-for-4 to lead the visiting Bears. Brycen Mode and Eli Oaks each went 2-for-4 with a double, and Will Amos added a 2-for-4 day.
Butler County (0-1) was scheduled to play at Russellville on Tuesday.
Cumberland County 13, ACS 3
Visiting Allen County-Scottsville dropped a 13-3 decision to Cumberland County in the season opener for both teams Monday.
Jay Desman was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs to lead the Patriots. Edy Chavez also drove in a run for ACS (0-1).
The Patriots were set to host Muhlenberg County on Tuesday.
University Heights 5, Franklin-Simpson 1
Host University Heights topped Franklin-Simpson 5-1 on Monday.
Brady Delk drove in the lone run for the Wildcats, with Griff Banton adding a double.
Franklin-Simpson (0-1) was slated to play at Portland (Tennessee) on Tuesday.
Softball
South Warren 10, Elizabethtown 0
Layla Ogden pitched five shutout innings to pace visiting South Warren to a 10-0 win in five innings against Elizabethtown on Monday.
Ogden didn’t allow a hit or a walk while striking out eight to earn the win.
Kinleigh Russell was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, Parker Willoughby was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Jenna Lindsey added a triple and an RBI, and Hadley Borders, Ogden and Hayden Holloway each chipped in an RBI.
South Warren (1-0) was scheduled to visit Barren County on Tuesday.
Warren East 6, Russellville 3
Ava Watt went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in to help visiting Warren East claim a 6-3 win against Russellville on Monday.
Autumn Brooks and Jordan Brooks each went 2-for-3, Kenzie Upton was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Madison Lawson tallied a pair of RBIs and Kennedy Lawson drove in a run for the Lady Raiders.
Autumn Brooks pitched all seven innings for the win, allowing three hits while striking out seven.
Warren East (1-0) was scheduled to visit Greenwood on Tuesday.
Russellville (0-1) travels to Edmonson County on Thursday.
ACS 6, Franklin-Simpson 1
Payton Hopkins went 2-for-2 with a home run to spark visiting Allen County-Scottsville to a 6-1 win against Franklin-Simpson on Monday.
Hopkins added two runs scored and two stolen bases. Brooklyn Oliver was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Maddie Gray homered and drove in two runs, Addison Law notched a double and Kensley Byrn chipped in with an RBI for the Lady Patriots.
Addison Ausbrooks started and pitched five innings for the win, allowing one run while striking out three. Oliver finished up the final two innings for the save, allowing no runs while fanning three.
ACS (1-0) was set to visit Logan County on Tuesday.
Kloie Smith went 2-for-3 with a double to lead Franklin-Simpson (0-1), which was slated to host Glasgow on Tuesday.
Edmonson County 15, Warren Central 0
Julie Norris went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead host Edmonson County to a 15-0 win in three innings against Warren Central on Monday.
Norris also started in the circle and earned the win after firing three perfect innings. She struck out seven.
Abigal Hogg was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Emma Davis was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI, Shelby Sowders went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI, Tayla Wilhite was 2-for-3 and scored a run, Hayley Sanders drove in two runs and scored twice, Emma Price notched two RBIs, adn Lillie Webb and Emberly Graham each added an RBI.
Edmonson County (1-0) was scheduled to visit Clinton County on Tuesday.
Warren Central (0-1) was set to visit Monroe County on Tuesday.
Logan County 8, Ohio County 3
Kallie Turner went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple and four RBIs to boost visiting Logan County over Ohio County 8-3 on Monday.
Brenley Adler was 3-for-4 with home run and two RBIs, Madelyn Burgess was 3-for-4, Macie Clinard was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Haley Henson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Addison Cartas was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Cartas pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three runs while striking out 12 in seven innings.
Logan County (1-0) was scheduled to host Allen County-Scottsville on Tuesday.
Girls’ Lacrosse
Bowling Green 13, Central Hardin 0
Piper Boyd, Macy Lindsey and Katie Blair White each tallied three goals and an assist to propel host Bowling Green to a 13-0 win against Central Hardin on Monday.
Eva McCay added two goals, Piper Morton had a goal and an assist, and Willow Yonts scored a goal for the Lady Purples.
Abby Lindsey notched the shutout in goal, finishing with six saves.
Bowling Green (2-0) visits Greenwood on Thursday.
