Hilltoppers fall twice at home to Flames

Western Kentucky’s softball team dropped the series against Liberty on Friday, losing 10-3 and 10-0 at the WKU Softball Complex.

The Hilltoppers fell to 14-11 overall and 1-4 in Conference USA play.

In the opener, the Hilltoppers were only able to get two hits throughout the seven innings while the Flames scored in almost every inning but the fifth and sixth en route to a 10-0 win.

WKU managed a single from sophomore outfielder Kendle White and another from third-year Kaytlan Kemp.

While the Flames got on the board first in Game Two, the Hilltoppers answered with three runs of their own in the home half of the inning.

With bases loaded, sophomore designated hitter Maci Masters reached on error to score the first. Freshman outfielder Kennedy Stinson drove in two more runs with a double to right center to give WKU the lead, 3-1.

Liberty hit a two-run home run in the top of the second to level the score at three each.

Both sides went three innings without scoring until the top of the fifth, when Liberty scored seven runs.

The Flames scored seven in the top of the sixth to take the second game of the day.

WKU closes out its series against Liberty on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
