Questions for Guthrie

I am curious about the $880 billion cut proposed for (House Committee on) Energy and Commerce, which Congressman Brett Guthrie chairs.

Where would they find $880 billion if not Medicare or Medicaid? I am not seeing where else that huge amount would come from.

Another question: Is the committee’s work valuable or something that needs to be depleted? As the chair, I would expect Congressman Guthrie to defend and fight for the services they provide.

Cutting Medicare or Medicaid is very unpopular with Americans. According to reporting in The Hill, 82% of voters are opposed to cutting Medicaid. In fact, 72% of those who voted for Trump are opposed to cutting Medicaid.

Medicare and Medicaid provide services that are vital to the quality of life, and often even the difference between life and death for your constituents.

I keep thinking if Kamala Harris had won, we would be taxing the billionaires in order to balance the budget and Guthrie’s constituents would not be losing vital services. Far fewer would be impacted or unhappy by taxing the billionaires than by cutting services to the majority of our citizens. When you have billions, why not pay more. How many billions are enough?

I think these are fair questions and deserve an answer. Congressman Guthrie, it is time for a town hall open to your constituents! We have questions!
