An open letter to Elon Musk

Sir,

I hate bothering you. Know you’re worn out from firing federal workers and gutting agencies (especially those looking into your dealings), not to mention, toting off trainloads of citizens’ personal data every day and chairing Presidential Cabinet meetings.

All I can say is, “Wow! There hasn’t been such a piling up of kindling around here since the Flood of ’37.”

Speaking of piling up, I recently ran across this line from Forbes, “It’s never been better to be a super billionaire.”

The wealth of American billionaires increased 87% from 2020—2024. (Enough to buy eggs for everybody!) Our wealthiest 12 billionaires are worth $2 trillion. No wonder the top 1% have as much money as the lowest 50%. And there you are, Number 1 of the 1%, pitching a shutout. Congrats!

When I heard you say we needed to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion, I immediately thought, “Eureka! The top 12 can pay this before I can bounce a check for Greenland.” Why stop at $1 trillion, though? What if every American billionaire kept a billion and put their excess toward our debt? Each could still afford woodchippers, chainsaws, and heated bathrooms, plus it would knock $5.5 trillion off the national mortgage. Now that’s cooking with gas! Having made their fortunes in America, surely our billionaires – even those immigrants like you – will do the patriotic thing and ante up.

Just a few more questions. Since you are doing the job of Congress, how much will be saved when you fire the members? Who checks for waste and fraud in your gigantic federal contracts? What igmo on your team slashed Veterans Administration funding? Americans love and appreciate our veterans. Put the money back.

And please start wearing a suit.
