Western Kentucky’s women’s tennis team lost to Florida International 4-0 on Friday at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park.

The Lady Toppers fall to 9-5 overall, 7-4 at home and 1-1 against Conference USA opponents with the loss to the Panthers (5-2 overall, 1-0 CUSA).

“Give FIU credit. They win the conference, it seems like, every year, and it’s for good reason,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “They did a really good job of handling the conditions better than we did today. I thought that was a big difference. That said, I liked how we competed in singles. I thought that was good. I thought we had a great effort, especially Rachel (Hermanova) at one, and then four, five and six we had really great efforts out of those players as well.

“We put this behind us quickly because Murray State is coming in Sunday. Very difficult match every time we play each other. You can basically just throw the records out for both teams. You know going in it’s going to be close. Then a very improved Tennessee State team after that. Doubleheader days are always challenging, especially when you have a rival like Murray State to start that day off.”

The Lady Toppers will host Murray State and Tennessee State in a doubleheader on Sunday at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park. The match against Murray State is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. and the match against Tennessee State is set to begin at 6:15 p.m.
