OWENSBORO – Rev. Robert Curtis Coates, Jr. 57. Entered into rest on March 1, 2025, in Daviess County, Owensboro, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert C. Coates, Sr and Robertha Strong Coates, and sibling’s Geraldine Little-Price, Jimmy Simmons, Castledera Watts, Darcus Coates and Yvonne Coates and father in-law the late James Joe Moss.
Robert was a 1992 Graduate of Western Kentucky University and when his football career with Western came to a close as most productive tight end in WKU history. Setting records for (119) catches and (1,445) receiving yards by a tight end. Robert attended Asbury United Methodist Church of Owensboro, Kentucky. He was a retired Correctional Officer from Green River Correctional Facility.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lisa “Lucy” Hunt Coates and children, LaDasia “Mooke” Coates, Robert “Tre” Coates III and Granddaughter Leilani “G-Baby” Jones all of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Brothers, Arthur Coates, Chicago, Ill, Jerry Lee Watts, Vermont, Richard (Ashleigh) Strong, Birmingham, Alabama, Demilous (ArtiKa) Coates, Auburn, Alabama, Darryl Coates, Nashville, Tennessee and Minister Simon Coates, Foley, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, Mother-in-law, Mama Lou, Beaver Dam, Kentucky.
Visitation-3:00 PM-7:00 PM-Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Burnam & Son Mortuary, Inc., 201 Center Street, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Services-12:00 Noon-Friday, March 7, 2025, at Burnam & Son Mortuary, Inc. 201 Center Street, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Interment-Bowling Green Gardens.
