Brooches, paperweights and small hanging pieces are among the missing heirlooms sent to Bowling Green resident Deanna Christian by her aunt, and she needs your help in finding them.
Many of the items were handmade by Christian’s father. She said her 99-year-old aunt, who is currently in hospice care in Carmel, Indiana, sent her a box containing these items and some jewelry.
“I’m heartsick,” she said. “I don’t want to tell my aunt … she has kept some of these treasures for 70 years.”
Christian said over one weekend in January, she was moving out of her home with some help from friends. She said the box containing the items was placed in a bathroom in the back of her home and was not noticed when they were packing up everything else.
She said during that weekend she and some other people came and went from the house retrieving the last few items, but no one checked the bathroom.
“I didn’t go in that bathroom because I’d already vacuumed (and) cleaned the bathroom,” she said. “I didn’t need to go back there.”
While some items that had Christian’s name on them were set aside, the other heirlooms were not found. Between 15 and 20 larger items are missing, along with “dozens” of smaller ones. The items Christian set aside are small brooches, with names carved into plexiglass and colored and feature flowers.
She said neither the property manager who owned the home she lived in, nor the current residents, have learned anything about the items.
Christian said she reported the items as stolen to the Bowling Green Police Department on the night of Feb. 27. However, nothing has come up.
She said several of her family members were expecting some of the items.
“They knew the pieces were going to be sent by me,” she said. “And I can’t send them.
“To us … you can’t put a price on them,” she said. “These are the memories of my dad, for the people who knew him, for his grandchildren and his daughters and his sons.”
Those with information on the items are encouraged to contact the Bowling Green Police Department. Christian also said photos of items suspected to be the missing heirlooms can be texted to 270-938-4679.
