Western Kentucky’s women’s golf team claimed victory on Tuesday at the UNF Collegiate at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Lady Tops earned a nine-shot win over second-place Xavier, finishing with a team score of 28-over par 892.

WKU was led by juniors Sydney Hackett and Averi Cline, who tied for third and eighth, respectively. Sophomore transfer Julia Zigrossi earned her best finish thus far at WKU with a tie for 14th.

The No. 69 Lady Tops defeated six other top-100 programs in the deep 16-team field this week, in addition to the hosts, North Florida.

WKU won its second straight tournament to begin the spring season. It is the first time in school history the Lady Tops have won two tournaments during the spring.

WKU coach Adam Gary extended his school record to 13 career victories. The 2024-25 season marks the third time Gary’s Lady Tops have won twice in a season (also 2023-24; 2014-15).

The 2024-25 season marks just the fifth time in program history that WKU has won twice in a season, and the first time they have done so in back-to-back seasons. In addition to the last two seasons, WKU has won twice in 2014-15, 2002-03 and 1981-82.

“Extremely happy for our program to come out on top here at the UNF Collegiate,” Gary said in a news release. “We didn’t have our best stuff throughout the week, but we battled extremely hard against another very strong field. Sydney, Averi and Julia all had strong weeks to lead us throughout; Catie (Craig) and Kaylee (Dwyer) also contributed throughout the tournament despite not being at their best.

“Our program has never won two times in the spring, so we are all extremely proud to make history and are looking forward to building off the early success as we go throughout the spring.”

The Lady Tops led the field in par 4- (+37) and par 5-scoring (-5).

Only one school had more than WKU’s 33 birdies and the 157 pars was tied for third-most.

Hackett tied for second in par 4-scoring (+4) and was tied for fourth in par 5-scoring (-3). Cline was tied for fourth in par 4-scoring (+5), while Zigrossi was tied for eighth in par 5-scoring (-2).

Craig (nine) and Zigrossi (eight) both finished in the top 10 for birdies.

Cline’s 39 pars were tied for the most in the tournament, while Hackett’s 37 were tied for fourth.

WKU will host the Spring Break Shootout on March 17-18 at Lake Jovita Golf Club in Dade City, Florida.
