A man who was punched at a Bowling Green nightclub died Monday from his injuries and another man was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Timmy Ray Cowles, 36, of Bowling Green, was booked Tuesday into Warren County Jail on a charge of reckless homicide after he turned himself in at the Bowling Green Police Department.

Cowles is accused of causing the death of Bradley Bunger, 42, of Bowling Green.

According to the Bowling Green Police Department, city police officers responded around 12:15 a.m. Saturday to Dolphie’s Lounge on Scottsville Road regarding an unresponsive man.

BGPD learned that a verbal argument occurred between Cowles and Bunger prior to officers’ arrival.

Witnesses related and video footage reportedly showed that the two men were arguing in the doorway of the bar when Cowles punched Bunger, causing him to fall and strike his head on the ground, BGPD said.

Cowles’ bond was set initially at $100,000 cash, but was modified to $50,000 cash after his arraignment Wednesday in Warren District Court, where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

At the arraignment, Cowles’ attorney, Brian Lowder, argued for a bond reduction based in part on his assertion that there was a reason to believe the use of force by his client was justifiable given the circumstances.

Warren County Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Daniel “Tres” Miller disputed Lowder’s contention while opposing any bond modificiation.

Warren District Judge Brent Potter attached several conditions to the newly modified bond, barring Cowles from making any contact with either Bunger’s family or witnesses to the incident.

“The last thing he wants to do is be put in a position where he’s attempting to intimidate or engage in any way to affect witnesses’ testimony while he’s under my bond conditions,” Potter said while explaining the terms of the bond. “This is a tragedy from all angles and I’m sorry to everybody involved that it happened.”

Cowles is due back before Potter on March 5 for a preliminary hearing.
