After a vehicle damaged several gravestones in a crash at a cemetery, law enforcement have heard from some relatives of the deceased ahead of restoration efforts.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 10985 Ky. 185.

Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower said the driver and passenger in the vehicle that crashed were not injured in the accident, but at least a half-dozen gravestones were damaged.

A post on the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page said that cemetery maintenance workers have begun to reach out to family members about their loved ones’ damaged gravestones.

In that post, relatives were also encouraged to contact the sheriff’s office.

Hightower said Monday afternoon that four family members had reached out to his office, and their personal information will be included in the incident report to ensure that the damaged gravestones will be repaired.

“It’s good that we have social media to get the word out,” Hightower said. “We’re hoping insurance can cover the any damage done. We just don’t want someone going out this week to visit their loved one and be heartbroken thinking that somebody did something wrongful to their loved ones.”

The Mount Pleasant Cemetery is located about a mile north of the Mount Pleasant Church of Christ on Ky. 185.

The old church building formerly located next to the cemetery was destroyed by fire in 2008.

The church’s website said that the cemetery’s upkeep is dependent on contributions from donors.
