The criminal case against a man accused of striking a Kentucky State Police cruiser during a police pursuit has moved forward.

Bobby Johnson, 44, of Cave City, was arrested Sunday on charges that included attempted murder of a first responder (police officer), first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer), two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree criminal mischief, driving on a license suspended for DUI (third or greater offense) and several traffic violations.

Court records indicate that the case was waived to a grand jury following an arraignment Monday in Barren District Court.

KSP said that a trooper on patrol observed Johnson driving on Ky. 90 in Glasgow in a 1999 Ford Mustang without a visible registration plate, leading to an attempted traffic stop.

According to an arrest citation, the car sped away from police, leading to a pursuit that continued on several different roads, with the fleeing car reaching speeds of 95 miles per hour.

Another KSP trooper attempted to deploy stop sticks at the intersection of Salem Church Road and Old Munfordville Road in an effort to stop the fleeing driver, who then drove his vehicle into the trooper’s car, causing significant damage to the cruiser, though the trooper was not injured.

The vehicle pursuit came to an end when a KSP cruiser was able to maneuver the Mustang off Old Munfordville Road and prevented the car from re-entering, records show.

Johnson is accused of resisting KSP’s attempts to arrest him, leading to two troopers deploying stun guns to subdue Johnson.

A search of Johnson’s car turned up an amount of suspected methamphetamine in the trunk and pills containing suspected fentanyl, an arrest citation said.

Johnson remains in Barren County Corrections Center under a $500,000 cash bond.
