City police arrested three people this past Friday as part of an investigation into the death of an 18-year-old from a suspected overdose.

The Bowling Green Police Department said it was contacted Jan. 21 regarding the death of Acacia Rose Martinez, and that Brayan Torres was developed as the suspected source of a fentanyl pill that contributed to Martinez’s death.

Through phone forensics investigations and other methods, BGPD detectives determined that Torres and Martinez spent a substantial amount of time together before Martinez traveled home on the night of her death, according to court records.

“(Intelligence) and incidents involving Torres has implicated his involvement in fentanyl use and distribution for some time,” Torres’ arrest citation said.

Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force detectives conducted surveillance on Torres at his residence on Butler Way on Jan. 31 and saw Torres meet with Reath Khan, 23, of Bowling Green, outside the home.

Detectives converged on the vehicle and detained both men, finding a gun in Khan’s possession and drugs in the possession of both men, according to BGPD.

In the course of the investigation, detectives learned that drugs went from Khan to Torres during a transaction, records show.

Police found a key card in Khan’s possession that led to a motel room where officers found Reath Khan’s brother, Mut Khan, 28, of Bowling Green.

Mut Khan was placed in custody on an unrelated warrant, and detectives obtained a search warrant for the motel room and found 8.5 grams of suspected fentanyl, 2.4 grams of suspected cocaine base and around 14 ounces of suspected marijuana, along with $5,910 in cash and drug paraphernalia, an arrest citation said.

The three men were arrested on charges of engaging in organized crime and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl).

Torres was also charged with reckless homicide, while Reath Khan was charged additionally with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and Mut Khan was charged with intimidating a participant in the legal process and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They were arraigned Monday in Warren District Court and are set to return Friday for preliminary hearings.
