Western Kentucky men’s basketball senior guard Don McHenry has been named Conference USA Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced on Monday.
McHenry earns the weekly honor after helping lead the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 mark on the week, including a dominant 101-69 win over CUSA opponent New Mexico State on Saturday and a 78-74 win over league-leader UTEP on Thursday.
McHenry’s week was highlighted by a 27-point effort on Saturday facing New Mexico State, with the Milwaukee native shooting 8-for-11 from the field with a career-high seven 3-pointers off a 7-of-9 from beyond the arc and a 4-of-4 mark at the free-throw line. McHenry added four assists and two rebounds in the win over the Aggies, helping the Tops to a third straight win in CUSA play.
Thursday’s win over first-place UTEP saw McHenry scored 20 points off 5-of-11 shooting from the field, 2-of-6 from the arc and 8-of-11 at the free-throw line along with three boards. The Miners previously held a share of first place in CUSA with Middle Tennessee before the loss facing the Hilltoppers.
McHenry previously earned CUSA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 16 following a season-high 29-point performance in an 81-76 overtime win over rival Murray State on Dec. 14, and an 18-point effort in an 84-60 win over Tennessee State on Dec. 10.
