Western Kentucky women’s tennis sophomores Emily Schut and Mia Miranda were named the Conference USA Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

“Emily and Mia are very deserving of this award,” WKU coach Greg Davis said in a news release. “I think the best is ahead for them in singles and doubles.”

Schut and Miranda improved to 3-0 together this season with two wins last week at the No. 2 doubles position. The duo defeated SEMO’s Lera Valeeva and Kristina Kozakova 6-1 on Friday in WKU’s 5-2 victory, and followed with a 6-3 win over Lipscomb’s Mariia Dolzhenko and Rut Galindo on Sunday. The Lady Toppers have now claimed the doubles point in all three matches they have played so far this season.

It is the first CUSA weekly award for WKU this season and the sixth the program has received under Davis since the 2020 season. Sayda Hernandez and Sofia Blanco were each named CUSA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week last season, while Rachel Hermanova received the recognition in 2023, Laura Bernardos received the recognition in 2021 and Cora-Lynn von Dungern received the recognition in 2020.

The Lady Toppers are 2-1 this spring and are scheduled to close a four-match homestand to open the season on Friday with a 1 p.m. match against SIUE at the Warren County Tennis Facility at Michael O. Buchanon Park.
