BG man arrested, charged with murder in Ohio

City police arrested a Bowling Green man Sunday who was suspected of fatally shooting another man hours earlier in Ohio.

Jason Lee Strain, 43, was arrested on a warrant from Adams County, Ohio, charging him with murder.

Strain is suspected of causing the death of James D. Land, 47, of West Union, Ohio.

According to the Bowling Green Police Department, city police officers were contacted by the Adams County, Ohio Sheriff’s Office to report that Strain, who was wanted on a warrant for murder, was in Bowling Green.

BGPD officers found Strain in the area of Scottsville Road and Lovers Lane and arrested him Sunday morning.

Strain was served with two additional local warrants unrelated to the homicide investigation.

Online court filings show that Strain appeared Monday in Warren District Court and agreed to a waiver of extradition, forgoing an extradition hearing and consenting to be brought to Ohio to face the murder charge there.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the agency received multiple calls around 4:42 a.m. Sunday regarding shots fired in the area of East Seventh Street in Manchester, Ohio.

Deputies arrived about six minutes later and found Land dead.

Multiple witnesses described a suspect leaving the area where the shots were fired and identified Strain as the shooter, according to the ACSO.

The sheriff’s office said that Strain was believed to be traveling back to Bowling Green.

With assistance from Ohio State Highway Patrol intel traffic cameras, the sheriff’s office was able to get a location on Strain’s vehicle, leading to his arrest around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the sheriff’s office.
