LEXINGTON – The Daily News garnered first place General Excellence for advertising and third place General Excellence in news for 2024 as The Kentucky Press Association announced award winners at its annual convention Friday in Lexington. The annual contest is judged by newspaper professionals from other states.

“I am especially proud of my colleagues at the Daily News for being recognized by industry peers for excellence in journalism,” said Joe Imel, the regional publisher of the Daily News and nine other Carpenter Media Group newspapers in Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. “The awards in advertising and news gathering speak to their commitment to our craft, our subscribers and business partners.”

The Daily News’ Sara Jones, Haylee Hayes and Nicole Bemiss, from the advertising department, won first in “General Excellence” for advertising in dailies. The trio collected 36 awards as they won and/or placed across 22 of 26 categories.
