Virgie Hicks Floyd

BOWLING GREEN – Virgie Hicks Floyd was born Dec. 8. 1924, and died January 5, 2025. She was 100 years old. She was raised by her coal mining father and homesteading mother in the Grapevine area of Madisonville, Kentucky. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, Bentley Monroe and Mary Cumens Hicks; her siblings; a son, Edward Nolen Floyd, Jr.; and a great-grandson Hudson James Lee.

She worked as a bank teller at American National Bank in Bowling Green, which later became National City Bank. Virgie enjoyed gardening, cooking, and collecting antiques. Her biggest passion was caring for animals, and she loved to share her hobbies with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 9 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial to follow at 2:30 pm in Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville, KY. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on January 9 at the funeral home

She is survived by her son, Bentley Floyd (Marlane) of Bowling Green; grandson, Jason Floyd (Audrey Armstrong); granddaughter, Amber Floyd Lee (Derrick Compton) of Johnson City, TN; great-grandchildren, Ansley Harmon, Avery Harmon, Caleb Floyd, Willow Floyd, Arden Lee, and Juniper Floyd; and numerous extended family members, including a special niece, Charlene Tucker.
