The Bowling Green High School and Bowling Green Junior High School cheerleaders recently participated in two cheer competitions and came back state champions.
BGHS competed at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Cheer Competition held Dec. 14 at George Rogers Clark High School in Winchester and the BGJHS team competed at the Kentucky Association of Pep Organization Sponsors State Cheer Competition held Dec. 21 at Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.
“I am so proud of our student athletes,” said Coach Bobbi Dotson. “The future of cheerleading in our district is bright.”
Dotson, who was named KAPOS High School Coach of the Year, and her staff have led both teams to consecutive wins, with four consecutive KHSAA Cheer State Titles (high school team), and three consecutive KAPOS Cheer State Titles (junior high team).
“This isn’t about winning; it’s about building a legacy,” Dotson said. “Four consecutive cheer state titles for the high school and three consecutive cheer state titles for the junior high team – it’s a true testament to the incredible work ethic and passion within the BG cheer program.”
Both teams train at Cheerville Athletics in Bowling Green.
The teams will be recognized locally by the city commission on Jan. 21 and by the fiscal court on Jan. 23.
The BGHS team will compete Feb. 5-11 at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports for The National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando.
