Spartans earn pair of wins in First Bank Holiday Bash

Host South Warren picked up a 45-42 win against Walton-Verona in the First Bank Holiday Bash on Saturday.

McLaine Hudson scored 18 points and Jooniper Strow tallied 12 points and eight rebounds for the Spartans.

Also Saturday, South Warren (2-7) earned a 59-30 win against South Oldham. Hudson had 19 points, Averi Fugate added 13 points and Ashley Overbay pulled down 10 rebounds in the win.

The Spartans were set to finish tournament play Sunday against Green County.

Warren East 76, Cosby 68

Visiting Warren East picked up a 76-68 win against Cosby (Tennessee) on Saturday.

Lydia Jones notched a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Raiders. Kennedy Lawson added 18 points, Madison Lawson tallied 16 points, Sam Carver had 11 points and Keyoni Collins chipped in with eight points in the win.

On Friday, Warren East (9-2) tallied a road win against Hickman County (Tennessee). Lydia Jones had a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, Carver tallied 14 points and Kennedy Lawson finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Raiders are back in action Jan. 3 at District 15 rival Barren County.

Marion County 59, Warren Central 20

Warren Central fell 59-20 to visiting Marion County in the Vanous Lloyd Christmas Classic on Friday.

Myra Mayberry led the host Lady Dragons with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Warren Central (0-8) fell 38-35 to Clarksville Northeast (Tennessee) on Saturday.

The Lady Dragons were set to finish up tournament play Sunday against Louisville Holy Cross.

ACS 48, Grayson County 46

Avery Morris scored 27 points to lead host Allen County-Scottsville to a 48-46 win against Grayson County in the Lady Invitational of the South.

Morris also grabbed seven rebounds in the win. Aubrie Naiser added six points for the Lady Pats.

ACS (6-3) claimed a 65-12 win against Mercer County in the LIS on Saturday.

The Lady Patriots were set to wrap up tournament play Sunday against Henderson County.

Franklin-Simpson 66, Meade County 47

LaReesha Cawthorn piled up a double-double with 25 points and 18 rebounds to lead host Franklin-Simpson to a 66-47 win against Meade County on Friday.

Kloie Smith also had a double-double for the Lady Wildcats with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Vanessa Ray added 12 points and Jasmine Savage had nine points in the win.

Franklin-Simpson (10-1) picked up a 48-20 home win against Louisville Central on Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats are back in action Jan. 4 against Warren East in the Kentucky 2A, Section 2 Finals at Allen County-Scottsville.

Central Hardin 48, Glasgow 42, OT

Glasgow dropped a 48-42 overtime decision to Central Hardin in the First Bank Holiday Bash on Saturday at South Warren.

Cynthia Austin led the Lady Scotties with 22 points and seven rebounds. Jordy Goodman added nine points.

Also Saturday, Glasgow dropped a 34-25 decision to Green County. Karli Hagan led Glasgow with six points.

The Lady Scotties opened tournament play with a 55-33 loss to Owensboro on Friday. Austin had 10 points.

Glasgow (2-8) was set to wrap up tournament play Sunday against South Oldham.

Grayson County 62, Russellville 22

Russellville dropped a 62-22 decision to Grayson County in the Lady Invitational of the South on Saturday at Allen County-Scottsville.

DeMyiah Allen led the Lady Panthers with nine points.

Russellville (1-10) opened tournament play with a 63-33 loss to Mercer County on Friday. Allen tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and M’Riyah Boyd also had 10 points.

The Lady Panthers were set to finish tournament play Sunday against Bullitt Central.

Edmonson County 52, Muhlenberg County 42

Cariann Williams and Kennadi Swihart each tallied a double-double to boost host Edmonson County to a 52-42 win against Muhlenberg County in the Rafferty’s/Double Dogs Caveland Classic on Friday.

Williams totaled 19 points and 18 rebounds, while Swihart had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jenna Cook added 10 points in the win.

The Lady Cats dropped a 50-48 decision to Marshall County to wrap up tournament play Saturday.

Edmonson County (4-7) is back in action Thursday at Hancock County.

Great Crossing 56, Logan County 42

Logan County dropped a 56-42 decision to Great Crossing in the Defender Classic on Friday at Lexington Bryan Station.

TaKyiah Mason scored a team-high 14 points and Kyla Bilyeu notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Cougars. Reese Wetton added nine points and Brenley Adler had eight points and eight rebounds.

Logan County (6-5) bounced back with a 34-29 win against Owen County on Saturday.

The Lady Cougars were set to wrap up tournament play Sunday against Russell.

Boys

Greenwood 84, Portland 62

Asher Pettus scored 23 points to boost Greenwood to an 84-62 win against Portland (Tennessee) on Friday at Franklin-Simpson.

Kash Sampson added 13 points, Nick Simpson had 10 points, and Ryan Troutman and Ethan York added nine points each for the Gators.

Greenwood (11-1) claimed a 50-48 win against Bardstown on Saturday at Franklin-Simpson.

The Gators are back in action Jan. 3 at home against District 14 foe Bowling Green.

Warren Central 83, University Heights 42

Robert McAfee scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to pace Warren Central to an 83-42 win against University Heights in the Faupel Automotive/Chevrolet GMC Ford Colonel Basketball Classic on Friday at Henderson County.

Jarek Kirk tallied 13 points and nine rebounds, Gavin Carter had 11 points, Johan Pratt scored 10 points, Randal Hulbert had nine points and Ryan Hulbert had eight points for the Dragons.

Warren Central (9-1) earned a 58-45 win against Louisville Male in the tournament Saturday.

The Dragons are back in action at home Friday against District 14 rival South Warren.

Bowling Green 59, East Coweta 50

Braylon Banks scored 19 points to lead Bowling Green to a 59-50 win against East Coweta (Georgia) in the Western Kentucky Hoops Classic on Friday at Caldwell County.

Deuce Bailey and Luke Idlett added 14 points apiece for the Purples, who dropped a 66-45 decision to Little Rock Christian (Arkansas) in the tournament on Saturday.

Bowling Green (8-2) is back in action Jan. 3 a District 14 rival Greenwood.

Warren East 60, Cookeville 56

Kaleb Prince scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead visiting Warren East to a 60-56 win against Cookeville (Tennessee) on Saturday.

Wyatt Gravil added 10 points, and Jordan Hogue and Dane Parsley finished with eight points each for the Raiders.

On Friday, Warren East (7-3) dropped a 62-43 decision to Maine Endwell (New York) at Cookeville. Prince had 16 points in the loss.

The Raiders are at District 15 rival Barren County on Jan. 3.

North Laurel 55, Butler County 48

Butler County fell 55-48 to North Laurel in the WGM Holiday Tournament on Friday at Lexington Catholic.

Justin Castlen led the Bears with 18 points, Trever Deweese added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Briar Griffin had nine points.

Butler County (5-6) lost 73-41 to Newport in the tournament on Saturday.

The Bears were set to wrap up tournament play Sunday against Lyon County.
