Harold Thomas Matthews

GLASGOW – Harold Thomas Matthews, 90, of Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away at his home on November 18, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Anne Downing Matthews, his parents, Bernice Thomas and Vickie Lee Elliott Matthews, and brother-in-law John Calloway Downing and his wife Virginia Akers Downing.

Mr. Matthews graduated from Glasgow High School, Western Kentucky University, and the University of Louisville School of Law. He was vice president and trust officer of Liberty National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky. He was president of Citizens Bank and Trust, which became Trans Financial Bank and is now U.S. Bank in Glasgow.

Mr. Matthews was involved in several civic and professional organizations. He was a past president of the Chamber of Commerce and was honored by being named Citizen of the Year. He also received a Chamber lifetime achievement award. He was a member and past president of the Glasgow Rotary Club and served on the Glasgow Board of Education for eight years. Mr. Matthews was a member and deacon of Glasgow Baptist Church. He was an Eagle Scout, and he served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

He is survived by his children: Dr. John Harold Matthews, Louisville; Robert Downing Matthews and his wife Jill, Ponce Inlet, Florida; Jeana Ross Kinsman and her husband David, Glasgow; granddaughters Julia Rae Weinstein and her husband Adam, and great grandson James Andrew Weinstein, South Bend, Indiana; Jessica Ross Smith and her husband Garrett, and great granddaughter Calloway Emma Smith, Louisville; Anne Calloway Dacci and her husband Cambridge, Richmond; Caroline Asher Kinsman, Covington, and her fiance’ Ryan Rhodes; and Julia Ross Kinsman, Glasgow. He is survived by his brother Robert Elliott Matthews and his wife Brenda, Big Canoe, Georgia; nieces Anne Grant Underwood and her husband Rollin (Buddy), and Jenny Jean Downing, Glasgow; nephew Robert Riley Matthews and his wife Kelly, Alpharetta, Georgia; niece Kim Katherine Morton and her husband Will, Baltimore, Maryland, great nieces and nephews and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, November 24th at A. F. Crow and Son Funeral Home in Glasgow, Kentucky. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, Sunday, November 24th until time for the service at the funeral home.
