BOWLING GREEN – Lisa Jo Howlett, 66 years of age, passed on November 6th, 2024 in Nashville, TN.

A celebration of life will be held at First Christian Church, Sunday November 10th. Visitation begins at 1:00 pm with the celebration following at 2:00 pm.

The Logan County native, was born November 7, 1957 in Bowling Green, KY. She served in many capacities at First Christian Church from Youth sponsor to Elder. She was a dedicated volunteer to the Community Grocery Store at First Christian Church as well as Hotel Inc. These were her passions following retirement from a 35 year career as owner/operator of Auburn Leather Company in Auburn, KY and Old Kentucky Leather in Franklin, KY.

Lisa also owned Glenview Health Care in Glasgow, KY for 25 years.

Lisa received her Bachelors of Science from Western Kentucky University in 1979 and her Masters from Western in 1982. In 2013, Auburn Leather Company was named the Small Business Exporter of the Year and received acknowledgment of that in Washington, DC.

In 2018, Lisa became the first female president of the Leather Industries of America (LIA) which later became what is now the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA). She was a beloved partner, sister, aunt, and human. Those who were fortunate enough to cross her path were better for knowing her. She loved her dogs Beau and Tank, her friends to travel and was a bright light to all of us who knew and loved her. She made friends everywhere she traveled and loved volunteering for the causes of which she was passionate. She mentored many and traveled far in her career in the leather industry as a leader and owner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Richard and Margaret Frances Godecker Howlett.

She is survived by her wife Jane, her sister and brother-in-law Pamela (G. William) Leach, Franklin, KY, her brother Lloyd (Kathy) Howlett, Texas. She was also survived by her nephews Justin (Kerry) Leach and Miles Leach (Eva), and nieces Erin (Ken) Cofer, Margaret and Jenny Howlett as well as 6 great nephews and 1 great niece that she adored. Many cousins as well as friends survive and will miss her greatly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hotel Inc., First Christian Church Outreach or the charity of your choice. Lisa lived by the scripture Luke 12:48. “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much will be asked.”
