WKU’s Cox, Van De Wiele collect CUSA volleyball honors

Western Kentucky’s volleyball team had two players named Conference USA Players of the Week on Monday, with outside hitter Kaylee Cox earning Offensive Player of the Week and middle hitter Izzy Van De Wiele earning Defensive Player of the Week.
Cox is coming off an offensive performance that saw her collect 49 total kills in nine sets of play for a .494 hitting percentage. In addition to her 49 kills, the Flower Mound, Texas native racked up four service aces and eight total blocks.
Van De Wiele’s performance featured 11 total blocks for the sophomore and a .324 hitting percentage with 17 kills in her nine sets of play.
The two helped lead the Hilltoppers to nine-straight set win streak and a three-match sweep of their opponents at the Alyssa Cavanaugh Classic. As a team, WKU hit for .328 on the weekend and their opponents to a meager .094 hitting percentage. At the net, the Hilltoppers collected a total of 27 total team blocks to their opponents’ eight.
WKU opens conference play Friday in Jacksonville, Alabama, against Jacksonville State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
