Protect families, vote no on Amendment 2

Having spent my childhood as a military dependent traveling throughout the U.S. and overseas, I was fortunate to begin my education at T.C. Cherry, while Dad was stationed in Greenland.

That experience, along with a loving compassionate teacher, Mrs. Rogers, instilled in me a lifelong love of learning. So no surprise that I finished my education after dad retired back in Bowling Green, graduating from WKU with a BA, followed by MA, and Rank I in education of course.

When I met and married my husband, a Bowling Green native, our future was sealed in this wonderful community, especially after being hired at Bowling Green High School to teach foreign languages.

Thus began an almost 30-year career as a Purple where I came in contact with wonderful colleagues and students whom I will never forget. Both my sons attended the BG Independent school system where they received an excellent education. My four grandchildren attended Warren County Schools, with three of the four still enrolled. As a Grammy and retired teacher, I spend considerable time at their schools, and see firsthand the remarkable efforts by administration, faculty and staff in meeting the needs of ALL students.

Spending 50-plus years in our community’s public schools leads me to speak out loudly and implore you to protect them. Do not allow our public tax dollars be taken “outside” and shared with unaccountable private entities who get to select students. You know there is only a finite amount of funds for education. Let’s all work together to continue making our public schools the best they can be serving all students. Our Kentucky Constitution is the only thing protecting Kentucky families from these voucher schemes. The stakes and cost are enormous. Please Vote NO on Amendment 2!
