Patriotic gesture turned down

On Sept. 10, 1970, the Park City Daily News reported that “An idea that originated with Mayor R. D. Graham to paint the new city water tank, red, white and blue in a patriotic gesture, may be an idea that won’t materialize.”

Because the tower is 30 feet above the FAA regulation heights, it might have been painted in a red and white checkered pattern for airplane pilot visibility. The FAA planned to discuss the proposed painting design with the manager of the city-county airport, private pilots, and Wright Airlines Inc. of Cleveland, the only commercial airline flying into Bowling Green.
