A child was injured by a gunshot as her grandfather was handling a firearm Saturday afternoon at a residence in Bowling Green.

The Bowling Green Police Department was called to 812 Roselawn Way shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday on a reported assault.

BGPD Officer Ronnie Ward said that a man at the residence was sitting on a bed and possibly cleaning a weapon, with his daughter and granddaughter sitting next to him.

The gun discharged, with a gunshot going through the man’s hand and entering and exiting the granddaughter as well, Ward said.

The child was taken to a Nashville hospital and was in stable condition Saturday, Ward said.

The man was also treated at an area hospital for his injuries.

“At this point in time there are no charges that have been filed but we will view every fact and all the evidence to determine if any charges need to be filed,” Ward said.
