Western Kentucky’s women’s golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of their season-opening tournament, the Boilermaker Classic, on Monday in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Lady Topper junior Sydney Hackett is currently leading the way for the Lady Tops as she is sitting in fourth place heading into the final round.
WKU is currently in fourth and is two strokes off of second place.
“The team played solid today, we played some great golf but still have some areas to work on,” WKU coach Adam Gary said in a news release. “Sydney has been playing great in practice, so it’s nice to see it carry over to the event. We still have a lot of golf left and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
The Lady Toppers opened up their first two rounds in efficient fashion. Led by Hackett, who ended her day with a 3-over par 144 total score, WKU posted a 295 total score on their first round.
Nina McMurtrey also gave the Lady Tops a boost, putting in three straight birdies. In her WKU debut, Julia Zigrossi had a bounce-back second round, posting a 1-under 71 which ties her single round career best.
All six Lady Toppers put in at least two birdies on the day, bringing their total up to 15 heading into the final round.
Senior Catie Craig had solid second round for the Lady Tops, shaving eight strokes off of her first-round score and positioning herself firmly in the top 20.
WKU will close out the Boilermaker Classic on Tuesday morning for the final round. Tee off is set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
