BG East falls in Great Lakes semifinals

The Bowling Green East 10-12 Little League All-Stars’ season came to an end with a 5-3 loss to Jasper National Little League in Jasper, Indiana in the semifinals of the Great Lakes Regional on Tuesday in Whitestown, Indiana.

Less than 24 hours after a heart-breaking extra-inning loss, BG East got off to an early lead before Jasper took control and held off a late charge – denying East a chance to advance to the Great Lakes championship game.

Bowling Green jumped out to a 2-0 lead, with Henry Phillips scoring on a groundout by Jake Young and Easton Crawford scoring on a wild pitch.

Jasper scored three in the second to take the lead and pushed the advantage to 5-2 with two runs in the third.

BG East tried to rally, leaving two runners on base in the fourth. East loaded the bases in the fifth with a walk to Trace Wilkins, cutting the deficit to 5-3, but a fly out to left ended the rally.

Bowling Green got the tying run to the plate in the sixth, but a runner was thrown out trying to steal second to end the game.

Easton Crawford had a hit and a run scored each to lead the BG offense. Captain Carr and Caleb Harbin also had hits for Bowling Green.

Pipes Gaines tossed three hitless innings of relief, walking one and striking out three.

Illinois 3, BG East 2, 7 innings

Hinsdale, Illinois scored two runs to tie it in the sixth before walking it off in extra innings on Monday.

BG East led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth before Hinsdale was able to tie it, taking advantage of a couple of errors.

After Bowling Green went in order in the top of the seventh, Shane Behar doubled before scoring on a double from Emiliano Nepomuceno.

Carr and Asa Buchanan had a hit and a run scored each, while Brady Boyd added a hit and an RBI.

Kip Walden allowed one run and two hits with nine strikeouts and three walks in five plus innings.
