Deaton’s 70 leads Spartans at Highlands Invitational

South Warren’s Miles Deaton shot a career-best 70 to lead the Spartans to a fifth-place finish in the boys’ team standings at the OrthoCincy Highlands Invitational on Wednesday at A.J. Jolly Golf Course in Alexandria.
Deaton finished eighth overall with his 1-under par 70.
Also tallying scoring finishes for the Spartans were Brady Patterson (77), Connor Baer (77) and Carson Smith (79).
South Warren’s team total of 303 was a season best.
Gators finish in 11th place at Bluegrass Cup
Greenwood’s boys’ golf team finished the Kentucky Cup in 11th place Wednesday at the University Club of Kentucky – Wildcat Course in Lexington.
The Gators combined for a score of 26-over par 310 in the tournament, presented by Geldhof Golf Academy and administered through the Bluegrass Golf Tour Junior Series.
Bowling Green was 21st after shooting a combined 43-over 327.
Trinity held the lead after the first round with a combined 4-under 280, three shots better than second place St. Xavier (283). The top four teams advance to match play on Thursday.
Trinity’s William Hudson held a one-shot lead in the individual standings after firing a 1-under 67.
Layton Richey led Greenwood on Monday with an even-par 71 to finish the day tied for 10th. Ryan Loiars tied for 47th after carding a 6-over 77, and Gators teammate Elie Wade also tied for 47th after shooting a 77. Keegan Unick rounded out Greenwood’s scoring with a 14-over 85 to tie for 88th place.
Johnny Brown paced the Purples with a 9-over 80 to tie for 67th. Eli Coates was next with a 10-over 81 to tie for 72nd, Jake Price shot an 11-over 82 to tie for 76th and Rowdy Harris tied for 86th after shooting a 13-over 84.
