BG East wins Little League state title behind Phillips’ no-hitter

The Bowling Green East 11- and 12-year-old all-stars take part in pregame ceremonies before beating North Oldham 1-0 in the Kentucky Little League State Tournament championship on Thursday in Corbin.

The Bowling Green East 11- and 12-year-old all-stars prevailed for a 1-0 win against North Oldham in the Kentucky Little League State Tournament championship game on Thursday at Miller Park in Corbin.

BG East starting pitcher Henry Phillips fired a complete-game no-hitter to earn the win. Phillips struck out 11 batters.

After four scoreless innings, BG East broke through with the game’s only run in the top of the fifth. Asa Buchanan brought in the run with an RBI off a fielder’s choice, scoring teammate Jake Young.

With the victory, BG East advances to the Little League Baseball Great Lakes Region Tournament in Whitestown, Indiana.

BG East will face the Michigan state champion in Game 1 of the double-elimination tournament, which will be broadcast on ESPN+. Game time is 9 a.m. CDT.

State champions from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio will also take part in the tournament, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
