The San Antonio Spurs announced that the team has re-signed center Charles Bassey on Wednesday.

The Spurs signed Bassey to a fully guaranteed one-year, $2.2 million contract, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported Tuesday.

In two seasons with the Spurs, Bassey has averaged 4.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists over 54 total games, including 19 games last year before missing the remainder of the 2023-24 season due to injury.

Originally signing a two-way contract with San Antonio on Oct. 24, 2022, he was converted to a standard NBA deal on Feb. 14, 2023, before being waived earlier this month on July 8. Bassey was sidelined after tearing the ACL in his left knee while playing for the G League’s Austin Spurs in December, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reported.

Bassey, a former Western Kentucky standout, was originally picked by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round (No. 53 overall) of the 2021 NBA Draft. Bassey spent his rookie season with the 76ers, averaging 3.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 23 games. He joined the Spurs on in October 2022, less than two weeks after being waived by the 76ers.
