Espinola tied for second after first round of BGT Junior Series Tour Championship

Bowling Green’s Elsie Espinola shared second place in the girls’ 15-18 age division after Saturday’s first round of the Bluegrass Golf Tour Junior Series Tour Championship at Weissinger Hills Golf Course in Shelbyville.

Espinola shot a 5-over par 77 on Saturday to tie for second with Richmond’s Mollie Neeley. Burkesville’s Kenzie Willen leads the division by six strokes after carding a 1-under 71.

Bowling Green’s Ally Jean Stephens was tied for first in the girls’ 12 and under (9-hole) division after shooting a 6-over 42 on Saturday. Elizabethtown’s Emilia Jackson and Mayfield’s Paislie Miller also carded 42s.

Scottsville’s Eli Stamper was part of a three-way tie for third in the boys’ 15-18 division after shooting an even-par 72 along with Louisville’s Wyatt Anderson and Weston Hardy. Louisville’s Cooper Borland leads the division after shooting a 3-under 69.

Bowling Green’s Ellie Morgan was third after the opening round in the girls’ 14 and under division after shooting a 12-over 84, 10 shots back of leader Heidi Mitchell of Louisville.

The second round of the Tour Championship was slated for Sunday at Weissinger Hills.
