- Incumbent Brandi Duvall speaks to the Daily News after winning the Republican primary for Warren Circuit Court Clerk.
Warren County Circuit Court Clerk Brandi Duvall bested two opponents in the Republican primary, setting up a rematch of the 2018 general election in which both candidates have since switched parties.
Duvall, a two-term incumbent, earned 3,359 votes in Tuesday’s primary, finishing ahead of Warren County grand jury coordinator Bonnie Williams, who took 2,752 votes, and Gordon Turner, a detective with the Warren County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, who received 1,498 votes.
The elected record-keeper for the county’s circuit and district courts, Duvall previously won two terms as a Democrat, but switched her party registration in 2022.
If her party switch had an effect on the primary, Duvall said it showed she has bipartisan support, noting that she was the only Democratic candidate to have won a contested election for countywide office in 2018 in Warren County.
“That showed me I had Republican voters come out for me,” Duvall said. “I’ve always had equal support from both parties and I’ve always been very blessed and thankful for that. I think people realize I have a non-partisan job and I’m very thankful that people chose to vote for the person.”
During the primary campaign, Duvall stressed her 12 years of experience as the elected circuit clerk, overseeing an office that also records legal documents, receives lawsuits and maintains the jury system along with managing records.
Duvall had also been a deputy clerk for four years before first winning election in 2012.
“I know I beat the heck out of ‘vote experience, vote experience’ and I really think the voters saw that,” Duvall said. “I think the voters wanted to keep what was working for Warren County and keep experience in the office and I’m looking forward to staying there and continuing the work I’ve been doing for the past 12 years.”
In the general election, Duvall will face Democratic candidate Sonya Kilgo Corder, who ran as a Republican in 2018 against Duvall.
Corder, who had no primary opposition, is a former chief deputy circuit clerk who is now an administrative assistant at Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College’s Allied Health program.
