DeShawna ‘Dee’ Brooke Maxey

BOWLING GREEN – DeShawna “Dee” Brooke Maxey, 43, of Bowling Green, KY passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Medical Center Hospice Hospital in Bowling Green.

Surviving siblings are Kathy (Tony) Watts, Indianapolis, IN; Kaye (Harold) Stone, Elizabethtown, KY; Jamie (Rebecca) Maxey, Bowling Green; Maria Maxey, Richmond, IN; Crystal Maxey, Cave City, KY. Preceded in death by her parents, Beulah and James “Buster” Maxey, Wilma Maxey, sibling, Bonita Maxey, her beloved cat.

Dee moved to Bowling Green in 1999 after graduating from Caverna High School. She attended Western Kentucky University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in English in 2003. She served as a core volunteer for Habitat for Humanity from 2016-2022 and worked at EZ Liquor for the last 3 years.

As a member of Hillview Heights Church, she loved volunteering with the children. Recently she’s been attending First Christian Church (DOC) where she has been serving in the Community Grocery.

Dee spent her entire life as an overcomer. While she ran an uphill battle, she never quit trying. She didn’t want anyone to be without food or shelter so she welcomed them into her own home.

DeShawna has a loving host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family and friends.

Memorial service to be held on Thursday, May 2 at 11 am at First Christian Church, 1106 State St. In line with Dee’s generous spirit, and in lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation to the charity of your choice. She loved Habitat for Humanity and the FCC Community Grocery.
