Auburn bank robbery net haul $1.5M in today’s currency

There was a bank robbery in Auburn that made the headlines of the April 26, 1921, Daily News.

Two armed robbers stole $80,000 in Liberty Bonds and $9,000 in cash from the G.W. Davidson’s Company Bank. One guarded the door while the other forced bookkeeper W. D. Herndon to open the vault.

The $89,000 stolen would be worth over $1.5 million in today’s currency. Fortunately, the bank was covered by burglary insurance so none of the bank’s customers lost a penny.
