BGFD responds to large fire near downtown

Firefighters from all seven of the Bowling Green Fire Department’s stations work to put out a gas and oil fire at Comfuel Gas Station near Gordon Avenue and Veteran’s Memorial Parkway in Bowling Green on Wednesday afternoon, March 27, 2024. BGFD units responded to the fire after the call came in at 3:27 p.m. and controlled the fire to keep it from reaching several large tankers filled with gasoline within 45 minutes on scene with the help of the Bowling Green Police Department, BG Public Works, BGMU, KY Department EPA, Warren County Emergency Management, Atmos Energy, Warren County Sheriff's Department and Warren County volunteer fire departments. Thirteen units from the Bowling Green Fire Department responded to a fire at Valor Oil on Wednesday afternoon in the 400 block of Raven Ave. 

Katie McKee, public information officer for the department, said no injuries were reported at this time.

The call came in at 3:27 p.m. McKee said personnel from BGFD’s hazardous materials teams were working to contain fuel runoff in the area. She said the teams were constructing a “pond” to keep fuel from running into storm drains. 

The fire, which disrupted traffic across large sections of downtown, was extinguished by Wednesday afternoon. No other details were immediately available.
