Church Street game hen works overtime

Although chickens typically take laying breaks during the winter months, an exceptional hen owned by Margaret Fenwick chose to eschew that notion by both continuing to produce eggs AND hatching them out.

By March 20, 1922, according to the Daily News, this phenomenal fowl was already in the process of producing her second batch of chicks for the year.

The Church Street game hen, known by people as “the settingest hen they have ever seen,” hatched five hidden clutches of eggs in 1921 all by herself.
