- Nashville Predators coaches and local players after a Predators hockey camp in 2019 at the SoKY Ice Rink.
Visitors to the SoKY Ice Rink will soon be able to learn ice hockey during their visit.
On Jan. 3, coaches with the Nashville Predators’ Get Out And Learn Program will be at the rink teaching kids ages 4 to 13 how to play ice hockey. Equipment will be provided. The event is free to the public.
Ryan Pattee, special projects coordinator for the Warren County Parks and Recreation Department, said when his kids were young he would take them to Nashville for hockey training camps put on by the Predators.
When WCPR started setting up a skating rink eight years ago, he looked at getting them to come to Bowling Green. Pattee said the rink has been hosting the Predators for the past four years.
The event is split into two categories, one for kids ages 4 to 9 and another for ages 9 to 13. Pattee said sign-ups have been “good” so far, with 23 kids enrolled in the event.
This is not the only hockey-themed event the rink is hosting this winter. For those age 16 and older, the rink will host the BG Puck Classic on Jan. 27 from 9 p.m. to midnight.
The event will feature draft-style choosing of players with teams consisting of three to five players each. Entry for the event is $30.
The rink is also hosting open hockey sessions until Jan. 27 for children and adults. The sessions are $10 to enter and, like the BG Puck Classic, is pond hockey without goalies.
