Joel C Brown

BOWLING GREEN – Joel C. Brown, age 90, passed away on December 18, 2023. Born on July 4, 1933, in Vine Grove, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Claude Lee and Norine Worth Brown.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Bettye) Dickey Brown, his sister Claudine Brown Warfield, and sister-in-law Mary Ann Dickey.

He is survived by his niece Marsha Warfield Potter, nephews Larry and Lewis (wife Karen) Warfield, and a great nephew Derek Warfield. A brother-in-law Robert W. Dickey of Saint Augustine, Florida also survives.

A 1951 graduate of Vine Grove High School, he served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957. Returning home, he entered Western Kentucky University and as an alumnus earned his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Rank I degrees. Following his first two years as an English and Art teacher at Allen County High School in Scottsville, he became an itinerant Art teacher in the Bowling Green Independent School System.

In 1968 he joined Central Office staff, eventually serving as Assistant Superintendent. He was named Superintendent of the city schools in 1975 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1994, completing eighteen years in that position.

Private Services will be held in the Parlor of the Presbyterian Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Church, 1003 State Street, Bowling Green, Kentucky.
