‘Warming Movie Marathon’ scheduled for Dec. 26 at The Capitol

- A “Warming Movie Marathon” will be Dec. 26 at The Capitol.
If you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays, make plans to stop by The Capitol on Tuesday for a “Warming Movie Marathon.”
Movies will be shown all day beginning at 9 a.m., with doors opening at 8 a.m.
The Capitol, which is managed by the Warren County Public Library, will be open that day since the library itself will be closed for the holiday.
Magnolia Gramling, The Capitol’s manager, said this is the first time something like this has been planned.
“Since this is the first time our library system will be closed the day after Christmas, we wanted to plan something special,” she said. “It was a hard decision to close, so we wanted to give folks who normally visit the library, who love the library or who are visiting family over the holidays something to do.”
Gramling said that the library’s director, Courtney Stevens, came up with the idea for the movie marathon.
“She kicked over her idea to The Capitol and we have just run with it,” Gramling said.
The day’s movie lineup includes “The Goonies” from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; “Hook” from 11:10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.; “The Mummy” from 1:50 to 3:50 p.m.; “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” from 3:55 to 5:25 p.m.; and “Guardians of the Galaxy” from 5:35 to 7:35 p.m.
Gramling said she chose the films because she thought people probably needed a break from Christmas and Christmas-themed movies.
“I also wanted to choose movies that take place in warm locations,” she said. “They are fun adventure films and are the kind of movies that take us away. It’s like an escape type of movie marathon.”
Gramling said that while the event is free, donations are welcome, but not expected.
She said she hopes that people will come to see The Capitol as a public place where they are welcomed, just as they have come to see the library as a public place.
Moviegoers can come and go as they please and Gramling said they can “see a little bit of one movie and a little bit of another, however they want to do it.”
She suggests that parents use their own judgment before bringing their children, since some the movies have a PG-13 rating.
The day will also include free hot cocoa from Bowling Green Neighbors Aid Network, popcorn from Grace Church and food donated by Chick-Fil-A and Smuckers, while supplies last.
“We are so grateful for the help from our community,” Gramling said. “And we continue to be grateful for our community and for how excited they get whenever we have an event.”
