Lady Gators open region tourney against Warren East

The Region 4 Tournament pairings are set after Friday’s draw for both the girls’ and boys’ tournament. The girls’ event will take place at Warren Central. The boys will compete at Bowling Green Junior High School.

In the girls’ tournament, District 14 champion Greenwood will face District 15 runner-up Warren East in a rematch of last year’s region semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Monday. Greenwood (13-6-1) won last season’s meeting 4-0 and enters with a five-game win streak. Warren East (19-2) had a seven-game win streak snapped with a 2-0 loss to Barren County in the District 15 championship game.

Monday’s second game will see District 16 champion Russell County (13-5) face District 13 runner-up Russellville (10-6) at 7:30 p.m. This will be Russellville’s first appearance in the region tournament and the first meeting all-time between the two schools.

The girls’ tournament begins at 3 p.m. Sunday with District 13 champion Todd County Central (9-7-1) facing District 16 runner-up Clinton County (3-15). The two teams did not meet in the regular season. Todd County is 5-0 all-time against Clinton County.

Sunday’s second game will see District 15 champion Barren County (11-6-1) face District 14 runner-up Bowling Green (14-5) at 5 p.m. The two teams met on the opening day of the regular season, and Bowling Green won, 12-1.

The semifinals are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday with the final scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday.

The boys’ tournament will kick off Sunday with District 16 champion Russell County (11-3-2) facing District 14 runner-up Warren Central (10-9) at 3 p.m. It will be the first meeting all-time between the two schools. District 15 champion Glasgow (14-4-1) will face District 13 runner-up Todd County Central (13-5-1) at 5 p.m. This will be the first region tournament meeting between the two schools since 2013, when Todd County won on penalty kicks. The two teams did not meet in the regular season.

The first round will wrap up Monday with District 14 champion South Warren (15-3-2) facing District 15 runner-up Barren County (10-12) at 5:30 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2020 region tournament.

Monday will conclude with District 13 champion Franklin-Simpson (14-4) facing District 16 runner-up Monroe County (0-13) at 7:30 p.m. This will be the third meeting all-time between the two schools and the first since 2020.

The semifinals are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The final is set for 6 p.m. Thursday.{&end}
