Gators’ Lang, BG boys win KGCA All-State Championships titles

Greenwood senior Jacob Lang won medalist honors in the two-day Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State Championship that ended Sunday in Lexington.

Greenwood senior Jacob Lang won the individual championship and Bowling Green’s boys’ squad took the team title in the two-day Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State Championship that ended Sunday in Lexington.

Lang fired a 7-under par 136, opening with a first-round 65 before closing with a 71 in the tournament held at the University Club of Kentucky’s Big Blue and Wildcat courses.

Bowling Green combined to card a 14-over 586 for a two-stroke victory in the team competition over runner-up Christian Academy of Louisville. Greenwood finished eighth with a 38-over 610 in the 15-team competition.

Reed Richey led the Purples with a seventh-place finish after shooting a 1-under par 142. Ben Davenport was 13th with a 2-over 145, Ty Wilson finished 25th with a 5-over 148 and Graham Hightower was 42nd with an 8-over 151.

Joining Lang with scoring finishes for the Gators were Layton Richey in 56th with a 12-over 155, Ryan Loiars in 60th with a 14-over 157 and Jake Russell in 75th with a 19-over 162.

Barren County’s Jameson Corbin tallied a top-20 finish as an individual. Corbin fired a 3-over 146 to finish 19th.

In the girls’ competition, South Warren tallied the top area finish after placing ninth. Bowling Green was 12th and Barren County was 15th. Sacred Heart won the team competition, and Sacred Heart’s Keira Yun took the individual title.

Bowling Green’s Caroline Childers tallied the top finish among area players after carding an 11-over 154.
