Hoppers rally past Pistons for 12-11 win

The homestanding Hoptown Hoppers rallied for a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to slip past the Bowling Green Pistons for a 12-11 win in Ohio Valley League collegiate summer baseball action Thursday night.

After the Pistons plated two runs in the top of the eighth to knot the score at 11-all, the Hoppers got the game winner in the bottom of the ninth.

Thomas Barnhart (Texas A&M International) had a big night for Bowling Green in the loss, going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. He also stole a pair of bases.

The Pistons’ Zen Hiatt (Montevallo) was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs, Charlie Teel (Sewanee) went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base, and Donnell Sandifer (Southern University) also had a multi-hit night with a 2-for-4 effort including a double and three runs scored.

Also for BG, Jorey Anderson (Bethany) went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and Edwin DeLaCruz (Arkansas-Pine Bluff) scored a pair of runs and tallied an RBI.

Pistons reliever Justin Crews (Tallahassee Community College) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out five batters.

Bowling Green (7-18) was scheduled to visit the Full Count Rhythm on Friday in Hendersonville, Tenn.
