On June 15, 1947, the Daily News reported that the city council was expected to vote on an ordinance authorizing the purchase of five new traffic lights.

The new lights, of the three-signal type, were destined for busy business intersections in various parts of Bowling Green, replacing as well the two current lights already in use. The older lights would be moved to less busy crossings. The new lights were expected to take 60 to 90 days to be delivered.
