Glasgow’s Cheelys combine for silver at Special Olympics USA Games

Russellville's Lee Dockins shows off some of her gymnastics medals after wrapping up competition Thursday in the Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Fla.

Glasgow’s Bryan and Kevin Cheely combined to win the silver medal for Team Kentucky in the unified 9-hole alternate shot golf competition at the Special Olympics USA Games on Thursday in Orlando, Fla.

The Cheelys teamed up to shoot a 164, finishing the weather-delayed final round with a 51 while competing in the second-highest flight in their division.

Russellville’s Lee Dockins added to her medal total in gymnastics, taking a gold medal in the Level 3 floor exercise with a 19.287 score and winning a silver in the Level 3 balance beam with a 17.362 score. Dockins finished competition with five medals – three golds (including all-around) and two silvers.

Glasgow’s Brianna Goode and Franklin’s Casey Freeman joined Louisville’s Dallas Derringer and Olive Hill’s Levi Olney to help Team Kentucky win a bronze medal with a 1286 total.

Goode finished competition with two golds and one bronze medal, while Freeman tallied one gold, one bronze and a fourth-place finish.

Bowling Green Special Olympics and Bowling Green Parks and Recreation will host a celebration honoring Freeman, Goode and the Cheelys on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Circus Square Park in Bowling Green.
