South Bend sweeps Hot Rods

The host South Bend (Ind.) Cubs completed a three-game sweep of the Bowling Green Hot Rods with a 4-1 victory Thursday.
The Cubs scored three runs over the final two frames and dropped Bowling Green (34-26) into fourth place in the Midwest League Eastern Division standings.
The Hot Rods were held to four hits, two by Roberto Alvarez.
Alan Strong (4-2) had a quality start in the loss, allowing three runs and six hits in seven innings of work.
Bowling Green will return to Bowling Green Ballpark to open a seven-game homestand (the final homestand of the first half) starting with the opener of a four-game series against West Michigan at 6:35 p.m. Friday. Neither team has announced a starter.
